Französisch-laotische Agentur, die sich auf zweitägige Kreuzfahrten zwischen Luang Prabang und Houay Xay mit einer Übernachtung in Pakbeng spezialisiert hat. An Bord begleitet Sie ein englischsprachiger Reiseleiter. Am ersten Tag halten Sie an den Höhlen von Pak Ou und am zweiten Tag besuchen Sie ein Khmu-Dorf. Die Abfahrten finden je nach Saison 3 oder 4 Mal pro Woche statt. Andere Kreuzfahrten werden ganztägig oder am Abend organisiert, um den Sonnenuntergang zu bewundern. Diese Agentur bietet auch Hotelreservierungen im ganzen Land an und stellt deutschsprachige Reiseführer zur Verfügung.

Mae Nam Khong, auf Lao die Mutter des Wassers. Für uns andere ist es der Mekong. Seine Quelle liegt etwa 5000 m über dem Meeresspiegel im tibetischen Gebirge. Mit 4800 km ist der Mekong nach dem Yangzi Jiang in China und dem Ganges in Indien der drittlängste Fluss Asiens. Er fließt durch China, Burma, Thailand, Laos und Kambodscha und mündet schließlich in Vietnam. Der Mekong ist von unschätzbarem Reichtum und bleibt das lebenswichtige und unverzichtbare Element in einem Binnenland.

Fabulous- all communication with staff before and during the cruise was exemplary. Traditional well-equipped boat and delicious lunches provided. Highly recommend. Didn’t want it to end- we’d just got used to the relaxing pace!

Wonderful trip up the Mekong from Luang Prabang to the Thai border.
Very relaxing, and a lovely local family own and run the boat.
Everything very well coordinated by Shompoo. Excellent lunches on both days and we made friends with the other 20 people on board, from all over the world! The cave and village visits wee interesting too.
A very good night's stay at the Sanctuary in Pakbeng at the half way point. A really great part of our holiday.

Our downstream cruise in mid Jan exceeded expectations. So glad we went with Shompoo!! Excellent service from start to finish. Guide Sene was helpful, friendly and informative throughout, lunches were delicious, boat (and western style toilets) was clean and comfy, staff were beyond helpful and friendly. This scenic experience on the Mekong was the perfect way to get to Luang Prabang.

Our family of 5 (with 3 young adults) had a wonderful trip on the 2 day Shompoo Cruise from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang. The border crosing process from Thailand to Laos in order to commence the journey was quite easy. I would suggest arranging Laos e-visa before leaving home. We were met at the Laos border by our guide Mr Sommay who accompanied us thru the entire trip. He was such a warm funny person - everyone enjoyed his anecdotes and observations. Sommay organized everything perfectly en route and is a credit to ShompooCruises. He even assisted getting a lost iphone back to my wife that was left at the hotel on the first night. The boat was super comfortable and a wonderful place to be for 2 days meandering down the beautiful Mekong. The accommodation in Pak Beng at the Sanctuary Hotel was lovely and suprisingly comfortable give its remoteness. The villages that we stopped at were very basic and authentic and it was a real insight seeing the local life and culture on the river. I would suggest bringing some cash to purchase some of the local handicrafts in these villages. Any small items or school supplies that you could bring for the local kids I am sure woiuld be appreciated. The cruise was the best part of our trip to SE Asia and I would highly recommend to all!
