Ursprünglich war Shakespeare and Company eine kleine englischsprachige Buchhandlung in einem romantischen Viertel am Ufer der Seine mit Blick auf Notre Dame. Sie existiert noch immer und ist unglaublich mit ihren bis zur Decke reichenden Stapeln von Büchern, brandneu oder mit vergilbten Seiten. Ein wahres Kleinod, das Liebhaber englischer Literatur begeistern wird. Seit kurzem hat das Unternehmen auch ein eigenes Café eröffnet. Wenn Sie nun an die nächste Tür klopfen, können Sie einen leckeren veganen Bagel essen, einen frischen Smoothie trinken und mit einem guten Buch auf der Terrasse sitzen, mit Blick auf die Pariser Quais? Nur Glück!

As a real book lover, I can tell you: this is not a place for book lovers AT ALL!
The book selection is SO POPULAR. Unless you're into fantasy novels, criminal stories, love stories and stuff like that, you will never find great books there.
History books or books about politics? almost nothing. Psychology books? so popular and boring selection. Literature classics? there are so few for an English bookshop that it's not even worth looking at the shelf, you will have a much better selection anywhere else. Spiritual books? There are so few you cannot even call that a shelf. Comic novels? Very few to choose from and not a great variety. Children books? probably the worst selection I have ever seen.
The only pro of that shop is that you have a place upstairs to sit and to read books around other books without being disturbed. Otherwise, Shakespeare should not be very happy that they use his name for such a shop.
On top of that, the staff seems to be stressed, not friendly, you are crammed into a small area. Nothing agreeable at all in this experience. I'm not going to come again.
Do not follow the hype, it's not worth it at all. Save your time (count at least 15 minutes queuing), save your money, save your energy and go to real bookshops, the ones for real books lovers, intellectuals, the ones which display a great variety of books, ideas, the ones which embody the real spirit of books.
Mi única sugerencia: ojalá hubiera un pequeño espacio para sentarse y quedarse un rato leyendo o disfrutando del lugar con más calma. Aun así, sin duda volvería. Un lugar imperdible para amantes de la literatura en París
