A PUEU VILLAGE

We found that the description on Booking.com did not resemble the resort. There was mo reception as such, you had to go and find the owner in his accommodation; there was no cafe/ coffee provided as stated, you turn up but cannot have a hot drink, unless you briing it with you: there was no mini mart as stated, the nearerst shop was 20km drive away. The cleanleyness was wanting, especially in the kitchen area. The kitchen equipment, i.e., the refrigerator, was old and rusty and did not function properly. Lighting in the room was inadequate for reading, I asked for a table lamp, which I got, but there was no bedside table to rest it on. The grounds were kept lovely and tidy, and the staff were very friendly and obliging. The noise from road traffic was off-putting, especially at night and early mornings. Our main drawback was that although it states in facilities that " they" speak French and English, they did not speak or understand English at all, apart from " good morning, how are you?" We don't rhink it is value for money as it is, but it would be if the facilities as stated in the Booking.com description were in place

If you like isolation from reality, this is a place for you

This is an interesting location being right on the water, yet there is no beach. You can go swimming in the ocean off their seawall and the water is generally calmer as the breakwater is out some couple hundred yards (meters). The view is great of the sea.

The bungalow is for the most part nice. The bed was reasonable and they provide a mosquito netting to keep those pests out of the way. This is Polynesian living, so no ac here, though they do have a fan. There is a reasonable kitchen with gas stove (light with a match), refrigerator, and most of what you need to make simple meals. Town is a bit away, so you need to really have a rental car for this location.

The plastic pool concept is a bit cheap, but they do work well and are relaxing to sit in and gaze out to the ocean. Also there are crabs that live in both the lawn and along the seawall that are interesting to watch.

I am only giving 4 stars as they really need to have better chairs to enjoy the views. The plastic blue ones are not all that comfortable. Also, a bit better cleaning on top of certain surfaces would be an improvement. The various staff members were all friendly, but do not speak English. I did not need much, but Google Translate works. Also internet worked fine as well.

If you want a more Polynesian experience and plan to rent a car, this should be on your short list.

Spacious bungalows close to sea, view is obstructed by big blue plastic pools that are rather useless, wifi most of the time didn’t work. But the owner is very nice and willing to help with everything. Safe place, quiet at night.
