Came here to mark the abdication of Queen Margrethe II (Margrethe Alexandrine Þórhildur Ingrid). Only to find out to my great sorrow that Andersen’s is now closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Well, who doesn't like Andersen's amazing split pea soup. The fact that it's vegetarian is another plus! Kitsch, old fashioned, filling and superb! Don't ever change.
Per the previous reviews, the location itself is a bit rundown. Although I found the service for my takeout order pretty good. Also, at the south end of the restaurant they have a general store and a little museum for the city of Buellton which allowed me to pass the time while I was waiting for my food to be prepared. The chicken pot pie and the Count of Monte Cristo sandwich were both fantastic! I would definitely recommend the food.
It's soup season!!! Had to make a stop while on our little road trip. I love historic, quirky restaurants and this one delivers. The atmosphere, service and food was great. Except for the chilli :( do not try... It really tasted bland, yet expired. But other than that a fun, family lunch was enjoyed.
Very unique experience. It was like stepping back in time. Good was decent, service was excellent and I really like interior design of the place. 10/10 roof
The restaurant was clean and left somewhat with that historic vibe and the service was short handed. I ordered the braised pot roast and I found it to be unseasoned. Did not receive bread with the meal either. My wife ordered the Monte Cristo which she said was wonderful. All in all it still was a great experience.
The Buffalo wings and Pea Soup were excellent. I had the Danish Sausage Sandwich and did not enjoy it. It's very sweet and loaded with Cumin. So if your expecting Italian tasting Sausage this isn't for you. I'm sure for some it's excellent.
The food was poor. Monte Cristo, was one of the worst we've had. Onion straws were limp & greasy.
Service was worse. Didn't get asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee until I asked for the bill. Server never checked to see if everything was ok between the time he delivered the food and the time I asked for the bill.
What atmosphere? It's a coffee shop. Denny's would have been just as bad.
I dropped off the Greels Paneegler recorder to Col. Rightwheeler there at Vandenberg SF so he could see for himself the tictac people that landed in that backyard a few months ago, we'll see what they have to say now. Well, it's on to Solvang for the Armored Whoopbanger Relay with my pal Delcampo D'Angelo Tripplewadd, but first we're stopping at the Anderson's Split Pea Soup Restaurant for perhaps the best split pea soup in the country. I put extra ham in mine with a good amount of hot sauce.

The split pea soup was yummy and our server was very nice and attentive. Very good overall experience so I’ve marked this as a go to stop for future visits.
Hadn't been there since the mid 70's! It looked the same with some need of exterior maintenance. However, the dining area and staff were great ????! Recommend stopping in if you're in the area. Looks like they're coming up on their 100th anniversary soon.
Clasic place to visit.
