Parc à Terre-Neuve au bord de l'océan.

Quelle merveilleuse aventure ! Il y a tellement de superbes sentiers, mon préféré est sans aucun doute le sentier de la montagne Gros Morne ! Je le recommande vivement. J'ai séjourné à Rocky Harbour au Out East Adventure Centre. C'est un endroit sympa pour les routards. On peut facilement passer 5 jours dans le parc national du Gros-Morne !

Ce parc est tellement grand que nous n'avons pas réussi à tout voir. Nous avons été sélectifs car il était impossible en une journée de tout voir et d'en profiter au maximum.

Je l'ai visité trois fois lorsque je vivais à Terre-Neuve et je l'ai adoré à chaque fois. C'est un parc très agréable, que l'on campe ou que l'on séjourne dans un hôtel de Rocky Harbour. L'étang Western Brook est vraiment magnifique. Il se trouve à environ 700 km de St John's et pas très loin de L'Anse aux Meadows. C'est un endroit merveilleux. J'ai séjourné au site Lomond lorsque je campais.

Un endroit magnifique

Une beauté naturelle d'une telle beauté. Un lieu de bouleversements et de calme. J'ai adoré le calme. Les enclaves communautaires étaient accueillantes et offraient une nourriture et des services excellents.

Gros-Morne est l'un des endroits où l'on peut voir différents paysages en un clin d'œil. Le parc national de Gros-Morne est un mélange de montagnes majestueuses, de montagnes rocheuses et de montagnes à la végétation luxuriante. Un endroit à visiter absolument lors de votre exploration de l'île de Terre-Neuve.

Très grand parc. Promenade de quelques heures. Impressionnant l'immensité des lieux qui vous fait réaliser à quel point vous êtes insignifiant face à la nature.
Les photos ne rendent en aucun cas la beauté de l'endroit, mais nous en avons pris quelques-unes. Il faut parfois faire attention à l'endroit où l'on pose les pieds plutôt que de penser à tout capturer sur une photo.
Une expérience positive que je recommande à tous ceux qui passent par cet endroit.

Un endroit très inhabituel avec des paysages spectaculaires, une flore intéressante et une grande diversité géologique. Il existe de nombreux sentiers de randonnée de différentes distances et difficultés.

Terre-Neuve est magique. L'eau est cristalline, les paysages sont à couper le souffle, les gens sont chaleureux et gentils. Gros Morne N.P. est un joyau. Les randonnées sont fabuleuses ; l'excursion en bateau à Western Pond est impressionnante.
Il y a tant à voir et à faire. C'est l'un des endroits les plus beaux et les plus inspirants que j'ai visités en 73 ans. Visitez-le si vous le pouvez, vous ne serez pas déçu !

Je n'ai pu y passer qu'une demi-journée. Mais j'avais besoin de beaucoup plus.
Si l'on compare les paysages de l'AB, il y a différentes façons de traverser la montagne et de profiter de quelque chose ! Le camping, la natation, la randonnée, le vélo et peut-être la pêche à certains endroits sont les différentes choses que l'on peut faire dans les différentes zones. Même en conduisant, c'est toujours génial ! Il y a des endroits juste à côté des lacs avec des côtes magnifiques pour s'arrêter et se mouiller !
En ce qui concerne la faune, vous pouvez voir des caribous, des porcs-épics, des ratons laveurs, des coyotes, ce qui peut être une expérience unique.

Attention aux randonneurs. Le sentier sur la rive gauche de l'étang Western Brook n'existe plus. D'après les cartes (y compris OSM), le sentier devrait mener au North Rim View Point, puis aux terrains de camping. Ce n'est pas le cas. Vous pouvez traverser la rivière à gué dès le début. Ensuite, le sentier devient de plus en plus mauvais. Jusqu'à ce qu'il disparaisse dans les fourrés.

Le Western Brook Pond, l'attraction la plus remarquable du parc le plus important de Terre-Neuve, n'a pas de sentier de randonnée ! À l'exception de la route piétonne de deux kilomètres et demi entre la route et l'étang. Honte à vous ! Vous serez probablement contraint de faire le voyage en bateau. Ce serait typique de la culture nord-américaine : consommer, consommer, consommer. Et grossir le plus possible.

Visiting Gros Morne National Park in April offers a unique and memorable experience, as my partner and I discovered during our once-in-a-lifetime retirement road trip from Alberta. Despite encountering every type of weather—from snow flurries to sunny days fit for shorts—the park's natural beauty shone through during our 10 day visit.

One notable aspect of our visit was the superb maintenance of the trails. Even though some popular trails and many local businesses, including ferries, were not yet open for the season, the available paths were clear and well-marked, allowing us to explore without hindrance. The varied weather added a thrilling element to our hikes, making the landscapes feel even more dramatic.

Wildlife sightings were a major highlight. The park lived up to its reputation with views of moose, caribou, seals, and bald eagles. These encounters were truly special, enhancing our appreciation for the rich biodiversity of Newfoundland. We also loved the beware of moose road signs. Lol

For those considering a visit during the off-season, be prepared for colder weather and some limitations in terms of open businesses and accessible areas. However, if you're like us and don't mind bundling up, April can be a fantastic time to experience the park's serene beauty without the peak season crowds.

We plan to return in late June to explore more of what Gros Morne has to offer during the busier months. But our spring visit was an enchanting introduction to this stunning national treasure, proving that Gros Morne has something magical to offer year-round.

Very beautiful, and an amazing site that all people of Newfoundland, and Labrador should see. Its far away from the main cities, so I advise you bring all the things you will need, and there is no cell service out here, But overall a beautiful park of nature, and good for hiking.

Completed the long range traverse hike in July. In hindsight I would have brought my fleece as evening temperatures were getting down to single digits. Lots of wet weather made for some wet trails therefore enjoyed the extra pairs of socks I brought.

Would highly recommend the hike but it isn’t easy. The initial ascent is quite steep especially when you have all the weight for your full journey. Views can be stunning but can also close in with fog.

Make sure you are comfortable with maps and knowing how to use a topographic map prior to coming. This isn’t the spot to be learning, but if you are comfortable, this is a fun (and tiring) hike.

Completed the hike in two nights on the trail, started the hike late on the first day. Planned to slow down and enjoy the trail more but with bad weather we kept going and finished early. Watch the weather as the descent off of the top of the hills on the last day are down ravines that could be tricky during rain.

Took in Gros Morne Mountain at the end, which is a great add on.

For logistics, we flew into Deer Lake and rented a car to drive up to the park. You have to pass a navigation test (map and compass) at the park HQ before they will give you a pass for the trail. To start the hike you need to take a boat tour into Western Brook Pond, and they will not allow you off the boat without the pass. We arranged for a cab to pick us at the end of the hike parking lot (entrance to the Gros Morne Mountain trail) and left the vehicle there. Then took the cab north up to the boat tour. To make things all work on the day we flew in, we ended up taking the later boat tour. This meant that we were getting off the boat in the evening. It worked for us but it is something to consider as it did not leave a lot of hiking time before nightfall. Flight schedules have also changed a bit so will need to check the new schedules.

There is a lot of water sources along the trail so you don’t need a pile of water but bring a good water filter.

Gros Morne National Park is ranked as top 6 most beautiful national parks all around Canada, right here, high mountains, deep cliffs, wide lakes, curve seashores, exotic gobi landscapes, etc. Only you cannot imagine, nothing you cannot found here. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site that demonstrates evidence of continental drift. As such, there are a broad variety of terrains and drastically different landscapes. There are tons of beautiful hikes and other outdoor activities available. The drive in was gorgeous and it only gets better from there.

If planning a trip, I'd plan around closures (such as the Gros Morne summit being closed to protect wildlife in May and June this year). Even if certain parts of the park is closed, there are still plenty of things to do. I'd start every visit at the Discovery Center, where you can learn about the different geographical features of the park.

11 days in this jewel of Canada made us dread going back to the U.S. Wonderful hikes without any crowds. September was a great time to be there. Such beautiful variety and peaceful. If you can only get to Newfoundland once, go here. The boat ride is worth the price.
