I came 16 March sunday. Despite i had a reservation, and called that i will check-in after midnight a (brown) staff there was “we can’t find your reservation wait until 8am to check in” i was baffled even i showed him email confirmation . The other staff at 8am checked me in smoothly. The bed was okay, no blanket, no cord for charging, i saw a lot of people smoking pot indoor despite the signs. It’s pretty far from nearest metro (20min by bus to hollywood metro) for a hostel
Beware For LGBT travellers even in West Hollywood i do not think this place is LGBT friendly, micro agression and stares

i am baffled by how some people r rating this hostel 5 stars. the front desk staff were not helpful. the moment she handed my sheets and towels for my dorm they felt dirty and my room was too. do not watch how they are advertising this off youtube...i repeat DO not lmao.

Great place for TRAVELERS wanting a true hostel experience! If you don't have proof of travel there are nice affordable private rooms available. Social activities, free breakfast, and the staff was friendly. Overall location was central, and it was easy to walk to shops and restaurants. Affordable hostel, and its clean.

Drove from the Bay Area to LA enjoy the weekend and got turned away because I did not have proof of onward travel. How can I have that when I drove? Me proving that I lived and worked in the Bay Area and was not intending on staying in LA long-term was insufficient. If this place has vacancies, doesn't it benefit them to think about how to accommodate people who drive from out of the city? They will lose customers

Super noisy. Everyday at 6am a trash truck made a loooot of noise. Moreover, the staff room was right by our bedroom which made a lot of noise in the early morning. Finally, a party took place at Friday night and the music was loud until midnight

Another issue was with parking. I asked beforehand hand if parking was included and they said "yes". By that answer, I assumed it was free (already included in the room price), but to my surprise they charged 9 dollars per day

Room perfect enough for the explorer. Comfortable and all you need, and all in a fantastic location. If you are planning on hiring a car, they also have a carpark.

Enjoyable stay! I always meet diverse group of fellow travelers. Price reasonable.
Great location to all that West LA offers. Michael at front desk made check in easy and his knowledge of places to eat and sights to see in the area was really appreciated! I’ll stay again.

Michael made my stay and from what I can saw he would do ANYTHING for a guest! The check in Was so fast & efficient. I was. I thought Michael just worked the front desk as you can see he's more like the Host. He is very effective in that position. He makes it so easy to ask for this or that, like whatever I needed was done ✔️ I will be back with no question. I look forward to meeting all you wonderful people people that make the world go around ???? I prefer the West side of Hollywood it has such a better Vibe. You really can't go wrong here. Enjoy your stay! Don't forget to RELAX!

This place is far from perfect, but for the price you can’t go wrong. I was worried about this hostel based on some of the reviews, but honestly I can’t say enough great things about the Banana Bungalow. The check-in process was extremely easy and fast. The rooms are dated with no frills but were perfect for my needs. The courtyard was the perfect spot to enjoy the nice weather and relax. I got lucky and only had to share my room with one other person, so sharing the bathroom/shower was never an issue. Not to mention the area is super convenient and nearby a lot of restaurants and nightlife. I would definitely stay again.

This place is cute, affordable and makes sense for all travelers from anywhere. The staff Michael at the front desk and the manager were both assertive and kind! Don’t pay attention to a bad review or two this place has been around and will be around. The Locals Love it

I have been coming to Banana Bungalow since 2017 especially West Hollywood the staff here you and old have always been very helpful I've always been there for me and frankly they are a safe haven for everybody that comes there did you ever have a problem all you need to do is ask people at the front counter and almost every single time they have been able to accommodate my every single need I returned he this year being 2023 and the staff are still amazing management runs a tight ship the night staff and daytime staff have always and I still super accommodating as I said I have been coming to Banana Bungalow since 2017 and the whole reason I keep coming back to West Hollywood is because this place absolutely rocks Nile Michael April Trice just to name a few have always made me feel extremely comfortable so from my perspective I will always keep going back to West Hollywood banana bungalows the vibe is amazing it feels safe and some It Feels Like Home I would recommend this place to anyone that wants a safe fun place to stay where they don't have to be alone in a dodgy Motel this place has it all. I think the reason people keep coming back especially myself is because of what this place provides as I've said it provides a safe haven for many and you don't have to be alone on your Journey here is a few photos...

It's kinda like a motel except without the high price it nice it's clean and their rooms are private.

We regret not having listened to the negative reviews.

The mattresses are wrapped in plastic foil. Really disgusting to sleep on something like that.

No air conditioning in our room. According to the note, there must be an automatic one running somewhere, but there was no sign of it in our room. Fortunately there was a rattling mini fan.

Regularly extremely loud behavior throughout the house. Whether in the bar or in the rooms.

Windows to the main street without bars and the underground parking garage with permanently open access does not convey a great sense of security.

Free washing facilities, although several machines were not usable due to defects. Great kitchen equipment, cute breakfast offer.

When I arrived at this hostel. I saw it the same as others I have traveled around the world. But on Friday when I came back from the street. I found a sign that said barbecue and free drinks . Friday 8 pm . I really didn't believe it . But as I started to hear the dance music . I cheered up and went out to their terrace . And it was true . His team prepared a great integration party. The atmosphere was excellent. The music and the attention was unbeatable. I recommend this Hostel. Especially for its human warmth. Something that is very difficult to find in these times.

Fine for what I needed it for: a single night to sleep, near-ish to the Largo where I was seeing a show. I booked a private room, which was clean and well made-up, not exactly spotless, but comfortable enough.

Staff was generally not available at the front desk: I'm not sure what their hours are, but when I arrived around 7:30 AM, I was let in by a person who stayed in the lobby overnight because the desk wasn't staffed overnight. During the daytime, ringing the bell brought someone to the front, but one of the staff seemed annoyed about my ringing the bell. Everyone was polite enough though, and I was able to get all my questions answered.

One thing to note is that their front door has a key code, so if you're arriving at a time when their front desk isn't staffed, you might not be able to get in, unless you get lucky and there happens to be another guest there.

Breakfast was very bare bones (fruit, instant oatmeal, packaged pastries, and coffee), but it worked well for me as a light breakfast before starting the day, and saved me from having to walk around outside to get my caffeine fix.

I tried to made a reservation through the Banana bungalow page and it clearly said that I needed to wait for the confirmation.

So I’ve waited for it and it never came. I sent emails and even made calls and they NEVER reply. It was impossible to have a communication with someone from there.
I had to book in another hostel since I never got the confirmation and now, a week later I see a $41 charged fee from Banana bungalow. I think it is incredible not responsible. I sent an email as well for this and they didn’t reply back.

I stayed there with a friend over the weekend and had a great time in West Hollywood. We enjoyed my stay and Michael at the front desk was a great and very kind.

If you're looking for a cheap affordable place to crash for a few nights while you're traveling, there's no issue. It's close to most of the popular bars and restaurants in WeHo and the uber/lyft rides aren't terribly expensive to get back and forth if this your preferred transportation method. The neighborhood seems a little sketchy and I definitely wouldn't be walking alone down any of the alleys or streets that aren't lit up/don't have street cameras at night for personal safety. Lastly, checking into this place is very poor and communication isn't that great. Be prepared to wait for a while or have questions that go unanswered. Spend the extra money if you have it to stay at a more reasonable/convenient establishment.
