To finish our wonderful Namibia trip, we spent three more nights at Okonjima Plains Camp. The camp is located in a 200 square kilometer private reserve. We chose Okonjima Plains Camp because they have a great philosophy that combines conservation, research and education.
They offer a variety of different and great activities.
Together with our terrific guide Imms we experienced unforgettable animal sightings. Our highlight was the two 6 month old leopard cubs gorging themselves on the warthog killed by their mother.
The accommodation is very well maintained and the staff is very accommodating. The food was very varied and always very good.
We will be very happy to come here again.
First of all, the view from the room is amazing and couldn’t be better. Unfortunately I can only give three stars, as it is too expensive for what it offers. Staff are friendly, but pushing VERY hard to sell you additional tours or meals, which makes the whole stay feel very commercialised and impersonal. Food was okay, but way worse than expected for this price. We also had a huge chunk of packaging material in one of our dinner meals.
BE VERY CAREFUL! THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED!
In March we booked accommodation for July 10th for two nights for two people as part of our 3 week trip to Namibia.
It was paid in full on March 13th, about 1,200 euros, approx. That amount included the full national park fee.
We did some extra activities and expenses at a cost of just over 300 euros, which was paid separately.
But in the final bill, they charged us again the park fees that we had already paid in March, and an extra of more than 500 euros corresponding to a higher class accommodation that we did not hire and that nobody mentioned to us. We had booked at Plains Camps, but they put us in Bush Camp.
We were not notified, nor were we asked for permission, nor were we consulted beforehand if we were willing to pay the extra cost.
The photos on the website are very similar, as they both have large windows to the outside from the room, so it is easy to confuse them. In fact, I wanted to book at the campsite, as we were going with a 4x4 with a tent on the roof. We didn't need a room. But there was no room at the campsite available....
I don't have to know one from the other, especially when I booked 4 months before. When I arrive at an accommodation I trust that they know what I have booked.
At first I doubted whether I had paid the initial bill in full, as we were given a rather confusing bill in Namibian dollars.
But it was when I got home that I realized the error in the accommodation and payments.
I have contacted them to try to resolve the issue. They told me they were going to review it, but it has been over a month and I have not heard anything.
There are better and more serious sites, so they are NOT RECOMMENDED.
Stunning!
A very well-thought private reserve; We went on a familly trip and spent probably the best two-days of our trip in Namibia. All the staffs are kind and friendly.
Kudos to our guide, Alfeus.
Incredible place. The lodge and the rooms are gorgeous, but it's the staff that really makes Okonjima such a special experience. They also serve the best food we had in Namibia. The chef is incredible. Highly recommend this place.
Despite frustration over our lost booking for a campsite, we ended up staying in one of the standard rooms (because the campsites were full) which was very nice. The lodge is beautiful and great for animal sightings from the porch. Great food, great service, and would highly recommend the leopard tracking.
Service just great, the setting could not be better. Food very good. Cabine first class with a scenic window to observe the wild life from yor bed. The guide promised to try to find us one leopard and showed us two, plus more animals than we remember. This was really a great experience.
Even though the lodge was way out of our budget, we are happy that we decided to stay here. The Leopard tracking will be a memory we will never forget! The lodge is very beautiful and the rooms are huge and equipped with massive windows overlooking the wild. From our experience the best address to go if you want to see Leopards up close. Without the Leopard tracking it would have probably not been worth so much money for us!
Perfekter Abschluss unserer Namibia-Rundreise!
Cannot recommend this place enough. Our best night in Namibia and wish we could have stayed longer.
Great food, great service from all staff (particularly the kitchen staff who came out to speak with us and even gave a food recipe the next day), rooms were huge and clean with a great view.
Highlight of the trip was leopard tracking. Our guide Martin did an amazing job and clearly loved his job!
