I chose not to participate in a tour with Black Beach ATV - QUAD Tour due to significant concerns I have regarding their environmental practices and their proposed landfill project in the ocean. It's essential for me to align my values with the businesses I choose to support, and I believe that responsible and sustainable tourism is crucial, especially in a place as environmentally sensitive as Iceland.
The owner's involvement in the mining industry raises questions about their commitment to environmental conservation, as mining can have adverse environmental effects if not conducted responsibly. Additionally, the plan to construct a landfill in the ocean is a cause for concern, as it could harm marine life and impact Iceland's renowned surfing spots, which are not only a source of recreation but also an integral part of the country's cultural identity.
While I understand that tour companies can provide valuable experiences, I feel that it's essential to prioritize environmental well-being and conservation when choosing tour operators. I hope that Black Beach ATV - QUAD Tour will reconsider its stance on these environmental issues and take steps towards more sustainable and responsible practices. Until then, I am choosing to support tour companies that prioritize the protection and preservation of Iceland's natural beauty and ecosystems.
Do not buy tours from this company! The owner of this company owns a Mining company in the local town of Thorlakshöfn. He has paid the local politicians to create a landfill for his mining company which will destroy the best surf wave in Iceland. This company is agains our untouced nature in Iceland and should not gain money from it.
This place is great. Pricey but worth it. The tour was exactly 2 hours, not a large group, the tour guide gave us time to take pictures at the plane or beach and made an extra stop in between the canyons which was great. Went through some mud, water and sand which was fun. The suits keep you warm enough. Our tour guide was a great story teller and overall very fun (forgot his name sadly). 10/10 recommend. A
What a perfect way to spend the day in Thorlakshofn! We loved every part of the tour - the lava tunnel, the hillsides - and, of course, the beautiful black beach! Thank you to our amazing guide for an incredible experience!
We had an excellent experience with this company and our guide Einar Alex. It was well worth the cost and Einar went the extra mile to make it memorable for us.
We were debating between doing this tour and one in Vik and we were very happy we chose this one. Zipping across the black beach with no one else in sight is a memory that will not soon be forgotten.
Highly recommend if you want to see a piece of Iceland that is not easily accessible by car or foot.
If you want a thrill, this is the atv tour to choose. Flying down the trails through the black sand dunes was super unique, and the grand reveal of the beach coming over the top was gorgeous. Shoutout to our tour guide as well. I can't remember his name unfortunately (tall guy with a beard from Snæfellsnes). He was really friendly the entire time. We got lucky and were the only two riders scheduled for our time period, so we basically got a private tour, which made it all the better.
Highly recommend this experience. The scenery is stunning (you see other areas besides the beach but the beach is gorgeous on its own) and the guide Einar was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We had a good time chatting with him. He recommended good restaurants and other regions of Iceland to visit. This was a highlight of our trip! Our favorite excursion so far.
