I have stayed at this hotel a few times before as I love the building and the rooms, however every time have found the male owner quite rude to deal with.
This occasion, we booked a different room to normal as we were expecting high temperatures and the website boasted air conditioning, which we actually found not to be the case.
We ate in their Orangerie restaurant and both had the same meal of duck with polenta. It was seconds before myself and my husband were in agreement that the duck was overly tough, not rested and difficult to eat, whilst the polenta was cold rubbery and bland. We happily paid for drinks along with the first course which I had eaten.
In the morning before check out, my husband went to use the spa to swim and relax before a long drive home, to find it was closed and didn't open until 10am, which was useless when check out is at 11am.
On leaving we placed our key on the reception as everything had been paid for online, though we heard "Are you going?" We turned and the male owner asked us for 10 euros, he was not at reception and had no paperwork? I asked what it was for to which he rudely replied the tax which everyone had to pay in every hotel in France. I explained I had paid for everything online and had receipts and emails confirming this and had not been made aware of any extra owing though he repeatedly shouted at us that we had to pay! He was extremely rude, and probably quite intimidating for some.
I explained that we would not pay a random 10 euros without any paperwork and tried to explain that added to that, we were dissatisfied with the stay and told him why. He tried to tell me that I was wrong about the website description so I advised him to check it there and then to which he screamed and said "Go, just get out!"
Can I add here, we had just travelled from three other hotels paying all taxes at the time we paid for the room and having travelled through France on many occasions, have never been asked for it ad hoc as we were leaving - did this 'Gentleman' in the loosest of terms, expect us to pull out a 10 euro note and pass it over?!
Do not waste your money or your holiday staying at this mockery of a hotel, go, look at the beauty of the Chateau itself and then leave before you have to come across him!
Merci encore
