What an interesting stay at Le Secret, hosted by Jerome. Lets begin with the hotel/hostal/bed&breakfast/“Jerome’s house”, needless to say the place is astonishing and even better than in the pictures shown in google maps, booking… Small boutique hotel with very good looks for design, mixing a french provenzal outdoors with a Parisian bourgeois interior. We stayed at Prelude room and it was absolutely marvelous. The hotel was clean and so were the rooms. When it comes into room amenities, don’t expect towels and sheets to be changed daily, nor your bed to be made, not sure whether you cant get that upon request. Our stay in Ile de Re was beautiful, except for the lack of empathy and hospitality we received from the person running the place, Jerome. Reading other reviews seems like this is a consistent negative trend, and the real danger is that one sole person can make you feel uneasy and ruin your vacation. We asked Jerome to check-in early (before the set 5pm) due to an important meeting I had at 4:30pm for which he utterly refused stating he had to clean the room, we then asked if I could just come in and have my meeting in the living room of the hotel or any other common area, for what he responded that that was not possible as he had to clean the house. He ignored all my calls after that one call and before the checkin time, stating he was busy with clients, he opportunistically grabbed my calls after 5pm. He had numerous condescending comments during our call such as “you should have organized yourself better if this was an important meeting”, “I also worked in the industry before and I would organize my calls better”, “have your videoconference meeting from the car”, “better if you keep your luggage in the car” for when we asked if we could drop off our bags in the hotel before 5pm. All around absolute zero help from him. It takes very little to go out of the way and be nice to people, something Jerome doesn’t understand as he behaves like the typical hippie brag, either way the place is beautiful and my wife loved it, so we will probably be back, if allowed.

Nous avons séjourné au Secret pendant notre voyage de noces. La situation sur le port de Saint Martin de Ré est magique, la chambre très confortable, et le lieu est particulièrement bien décoré. Nous avons été formidablement accueillis dans cette maison qui a quelque chose de spécial. Nous n'avons qu'une envie c'est d'y retourner... notamment pour boire un verre au sommet de la maison, dans le lanternon : une expérience unique !

We spent the most delightful four days with our adult children in Jerome's beautiful guesthouse. Stylishly decorated yet cosy and welcoming. The house is incredibly well positioned in the centre of town but provided a quiet oasis for us to relax and unwind. Make sure to book a spot on the roof terrace for drinks and the incredible view. Thank you to our wonderful host for his warm hospitality. We especially enjoyed spending time with Phenix and Polka who really make the place feel extra homey. We can not wait to come back.
