This was a really interesting old cemetery. A nice large spot of shade and tranquility in the middle of the bustling city.

Сам по себе район, хоть и находится у одноименного вокзала, довольно тихий и уютный. До центра и Эйфелевой башни минут 20 пешком, хотя мне вид с Монпарнас понравился больше. Рядом находится кладбище, где упокоились многие знаменитые люди. Сверху это напоминает большую парковку.

I listened to the cemetery guard clicking to call a pigeon he was intent on feeding
Susan Sontag, Samuel Becket, this graveyard is special for more than the famous people it holds. The tall thin mausoleums, the wrought iron doors and the stylish stone carvings.
With limited time between connections from Gare Montparness and Charles De Gaulle flights, i managed a 30 min rest in the graveyard. It's clearly worthy of half day at a time. Bordered by street cafe's of varying quality but always delivering excellent people watching, Especially on a Saturday morning when the street market is in action

Planté de 1244 arbres de 40 essences différentes (sophoras, érables, tilleuls...), c'est un espace vert important de la capitale, riche en œuvres d'art anciennes et modernes.
Parmi les 38000 sépultures figurent d'illustres défunts du monde des arts et des lettres.
Le cimetière du Montparnasse couvre une superficie de 18,72 hectares.

Seems strange reviewing a graveyard but why not. We were in the area waiting to visit the Catacombs and had an hour spare. Decided to take a wonder around here. Quite fascinating. Still a used cemetery so be mindful of loved ones mourning. Some incredible tombstones/huts and a few famous names as well. Signs are at the entrance with maps to direct

C'est un cimetière typiquement catholique et parisien. Il y a beaucoup de tombes d'artistes qui ont vécu dans le quartier. Il y a aussi de grands caveaux familiaux avec des portes en acier.

Nous sommes entrées pour nous y promener. Un monsieur très aimable nous a proposé une visite guidée avec un bénévole passionné et passionnant.
Une super visite. Seules, nous n'aurions pas vu tout ça car on se serait perdues...

Ein Parisbesuch, ohne zumindest ein paar Minuten diesen Friedhof besucht zu haben, ist die Zwiebelsuppe ohne Zwiebel. Leider sind manche, wirklich bedeutende, französische Schriftsteller kaum auffindbar oder der Zustand des Grabes inakzeptabel. Dafür reichlich, natürlich wohlhabende, Bonzen vorhanden.

The Montparnasse cemetery is truly a quiet spot amidst the otherwise bustling streets of the capital.
Take a moment or two to relax and sit down and enjoy the scenery, especially in spring when the trees and bushes grow their leaves and first blossoms appear.
There are quite a few celebrity buried among others Serge Ginsbourg, Susan Sontag and J. P. Sartre.

If you are seeing this, please read. Our daughter Sonya Love Atran-Pirtz will be celebrating her 2nd birthday very soon. Due to heartbreaking circumstances, she is resting peacefully in this beautiful cemetery. My wife and I had to leave paris, and we can not make it to the grave as much as we would love. If anyone would find it in their heart to stop by and say hi or even water the plants for us, if they look thirsty, it would mean the world to us.

Absolutely stunning cemetery with quite a few people of note buried here, especially Jean Paul satire, who’s buried with his wife Simone du boviour. You’ll find travel cards left on their stones and others.
The old towers in the middle is part of a farm that was there before the cemetery, and the cemetery grew around it.
The place has decent toilets, as seen in my pictures and a few benches for sitting and relaxing. A great way to spend some time on a Sunday.
