LES SOURCES DE CHEVERNY

My wife wrote in French but this is for English speakers. We spent three nights at Les Sources de Cheverny over Easter and, unfortunately, left feeling disappointed by both the facilities and a few aspects of the service.

My wife arrived first with our bags alone and was asked twice whether she needed help with my luggage—something that should be offered instinctively at a five-star hotel, not requested. This was especially frustrating given that my room was on the second floor, accessible only via a narrow, spiraling staircase due to a broken elevator, and required navigating multiple doors via a landing to reach the door.

Our suite, priced at €830 per night, did not meet expectations. The slanted attic ceilings made the space feel cramped, and the so-called living area was small, dark, and sparsely furnished—more akin to a single bedroom than a proper lounge. Overall, the room lacked the quality and comfort one would associate with a five-star experience.

Upon checkout, we were informed that access to the pool and spa facilities came at an extra cost (€42 per person for 2hrs) — an unwelcome surprise and, frankly, unacceptable at this price point. The spa itself was underwhelming: a modest pool (cramped if more than 2 or three people use it), a small circular steam room that wasn’t warm, and an outdoor jacuzzi that also lacked sufficient heat and none of the jacuzzi functions worked. There was no sauna, no cold plunge, not enough space for other guests on beds, and certainly nothing that justified an additional fee on top of the room rate.

To add insult to injury upon check out and when facing a >3000 bill for three nights the receptionist handed us the card reader and asked if we wanted to leave a tip as a % of our overall bill….. options were 5%, 10% and 15%. I’ve never seen anything like this and ignores tips accumulated on other bills charged to the room.

We won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend this property to travelers with high expectations. The hotel does not live up to its five-star rating, particularly if you’re coming for the spa experience.

The owner needs a wake up call

J’ai passé trois nuits à l’hôtel Les Sources de Cheverny pendant le week-end de Pâques, et je suis malheureusement repartie déçue par les installations et certains aspects du service. Je suis arrivée seule et on m’a demandé à deux reprises si j’avais besoin d’aide avec mes bagages — une attention qui, dans un hôtel cinq étoiles, devrait être automatique. Cela était d’autant plus frustrant que ma chambre se trouvait au deuxième étage, accessible uniquement par un escalier en colimaçon étroit, l’ascenseur étant en panne, et il fallait ensuite encore descendre un palier pour y accéder.

Notre suite, facturée 830 € la nuit, n’était pas à la hauteur. Les murs en pente rendaient la pièce étouffante, et le salon, petit, sombre, ressemblait davantage à une chambre simple qu’à un véritable espace de détente. Le mobilier était très basique, loin du standing attendu dans un établissement cinq étoiles.

Au moment du départ, on m’a informée que l’accès à la piscine et au spa était en supplément — une surprise très désagréable, difficile à accepter dans un hôtel déjà aussi cher. Le spa était très décevant : une piscine simple, un petit hammam circulaire à peine chaud, et un jacuzzi extérieur qui ne l’était pas davantage. Aucun sauna, pas de bassin froid, et rien qui justifie un tarif supplémentaire.

Cela dit, tout n’était pas négatif. Le massage que j’ai reçu était agréable, et une responsable ou serveuse au restaurant a été particulièrement professionnelle, gentille et attentionnée.

Malgré ces quelques points positifs, je ne reviendrai pas et je ne recommande pas cet établissement à ceux qui ont des standards élevés. Cet hôtel ne mérite pas ses cinq étoiles, surtout si vous y venez pour profiter du spa.

Wunderschön gelegenes Hotel umgeben von der Natur. Super nette Mitarbeiter und schöne, gemütliche Zimmer. Einziger Nachteil, der Pool und Spa sind nicht im Preis inbegriffen und muss zusätzlich bezahlt werden. Das gleiche gilt für das Frühstück. Für diesen Preis sollte dies meiner Meinung nach inklusive sein. Trotzdem sehr empfehlenswert, um nahe bei der Natur zu sein und einfach zu relaxen. Würde ich definitiv wieder besuchen.

The grounds were beautiful and very peaceful. Lots of things to do for all ages. The staff was wonderful!

The stay itself and the experience was wonderful. The setting and quiet luxurious details were exactly what we wanted from the booking. We loved taking the free bikes out and exploring the grounds, and the suite itself and turn down service and the welcome tea. I appreciated the bottle of wine through Mr and Mrs Smith and the chocolate for my birthday. However there were some hiccups that for a hotel of this price and stature were not okay. The spa initially lost my booking for a ritual and essentially told me I never booked the ritual and only booked a massage, until I proved it with emails I pulled up. It was solved but it was not a good experience as I had called three times and sent multiple emails to confirm the booking.||||Then at dinner at L'Auberge, we watched as every table including those seated after us, received their food and we didn't receive even appetizers for an hour. The explanation was that the server thought that we wanted to wait until we got our drinks before we ate but again, for a birthday, this level of service at this establishment is unacceptable. It also made us wonder since we were the only people of color in the entire establishment if that had something to do with it. If guests even have to wonder that, the evening is already ruined. While the drinks were comped the evening was not the best.||||The atmosphere, aesthetic and overall experience at Les sources is great. However these issues did put a dampener on what should have been a beautiful birthday experience.
