GEIRLAUG ÞORVALDSDÓTTIR

Geirlaug Þorvaldsdóttir ist seit 2004 die alleinige Besitzerin des Holt-Hotels. Sie ist die Tochter der Gründer des Holt-Hotels, Þorvaldur Guðmundsson und Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir.

Geirlaug arbeitete in jungen Jahren im Hotel Loftleiðir (heute Icelandair Hotel Reykjavík Natura) und in der Lobby des Holt-Hotels, während sie ihr Studium abschloss.

Sie unterrichtete über 30 Jahre lang Fremdsprachen an der Oberschule Menntaskólinn í Hamrahlíð.

Sie absolvierte 1972 die Schauspielabteilung des isländischen Nationaltheaters und arbeitete dort mehrere Jahre lang. Außerdem arbeitete sie mehrere Jahre lang im Programmbereich von Fernsehen und Radio sowie für das Kunstfestival in Reykjavik.

Geirlaug war schon immer in der Gemeinde aktiv. Sie war viele Jahre lang Mitglied des Vorstands des isländischen Akademikerinnenverbands, davon 14 Jahre als Vorsitzende. Außerdem war sie Vorstandsmitglied des Verbands der Frauengesellschaften von Reykjavik, der Home Economics School von Reykjavik und des Mothers Fund von Reykjavik.

Geirlaugs Kinder sind Þorvaldur Kristjánsson, Islands nationaler Berater für Pferdezucht, und Ingibjörg Kristjánsdóttir, der gerade ein Aufbaustudium in Kardiologie abschließt.

We were more than pleased with our 2-night stay at Hotel Holt. The atmosphere is charming and warm, and the front desk staff are exceptionally helpful. The complimentary coffee bar was a nice touch and the room was clean and comfortable. There are comfortable areas for guests to lounge and read, as well as lots of beautiful art to look at. I would definitely stay here again and recommend Hotel Holt to anyone visiting Reykjavik.

Super cute hotel with vintage flair and - as the name suggests - Art everywhere.
Perfectly located close to the city but still not too loud at night. Breakfast is really good, too, and staff is very attentive and Super friendly and helpful.

After recently staying in the Hotel Holt during our trip to Iceland, we would recommend if you're looking for something near the main strip (5 min walk) and the church. Quite basic rooms but was perfect for us and had everything we needed and was out in town for most of the day.

Also wanted to say that Kevin at the front desk was so polite and really helpful. He made some good recommendations for us to eat when we first arrived and helped us out when we thought the Blue lagoon was closed.

This hotel was part of a package holiday, and was listed under the "luxury" category. There didn't seem to be many pictures of the rooms online, but the reviews seemed good enough so we gave it a go. But unfortunately there isn't many good things to say about it, from our stay at this hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the hotel is in a good location (5 minutes walk from the town, etc), but the rooms are tiny and old fashioned. Could do with a makeover, and modernising a bit. No fridge in the room and the TV was too small to do anything with. Even the extractor fan in the bathroom wasn't working, and could see mould starting to appear on the ceiling. Luckily our package holiday included a lot of days out/trips, so none of this was a huge problem for us, but expected a lot more.

Breakfast (if you can call it that) was included from 7 to 10am. We went twice, then decided to eat elsewhere after that. The first morning there was scrambled egg, sausages, and beans (all lukewarm) with a couple of pastries and a few other odd little bits. Not much at all. On the second morning there was scrambled egg, mushroom, and bacon (again all lukewarm), with the same pastries and other little bits. We knew it was going to be a buffet style breakfast, but was expecting more options at least. If you choose to stay here, I would save your money and get breakfast elsewhere.
