Night staff were lovely. Day staff were a bit odd and not friendly. Would of been nice if there was more merchandise, especially for the DD dog foundation. The staff in Terry’s at breakfast were lovely. They have ridiculously small plates at breakfast and tiny cutlery. Was great to stay there. Lots of great DD memorabilia. Lots of dogs staying too. Rooms small and quaint.

The hidden outdoor dining area is fantastic, with reasonably-priced eating options galore including the eclectic Bar Menu.

Cypress Inn is an iconic treasure full of memorabilia of Doris Day one of the hotels former owners, actress, singers, and animal activist. This hotel is pet friendly and rich in history along with lovely comfortable surroundings. The front lobby has a cozy fireplace and comfortable seating. You will see a few dogs relaxing by the side of their owners. Terry's Lounge, named after Doris Days beloved son, is located in the lobby and has classic cocktails, and terrific fresh food for lunch and dinners.

Still one of the best locations to stay with your dog in Carmel. Fortunately lots to do in town as facilities resemble a roadside motel in regards to cleanliness and water. I overheard several people reiterating the fact there is only ice available at the bar during bar hours via guest taking bucket to bar while diners are seated nearby. My first small bucket of ice. Picked up before bar closed at 9:30 pm was used the previous evening I waited until the morning to seel more Unfortunately I was greeted by a snoozing desk clerk at five and instructed to wait until bar opened when returning the ice bucket I borrowed from front desk the prior evenh. Most disappointing is the bath cleanliness, shower tile needs cleanser, plus NO HOT WATER and RECYCLED and USED and INCOMPLETE TOILETRIES. On top of the room deficiencies current management places profit over patrons by using facility 24/7 for deliveries and dishwashing which is most apparent if unfortunate enough to be placed near the West or South kitchen and employee entrances respectively.

The Cypress Inn consistently indicates breakfast bar hours 7-9:30 or later. Turns out menu at 7 is only coffee, juice, and very limited distance -maybe cereal, some pastries, and yogurt. You have to wait until 7:30 for food to start being served in stages which is indicated on a sign next to self-serve utensils etc. Multiple patrons made the same observation regarding timing of breakfast service.

Back to the global bath and water issues after the front desk told I could have an extra "10 minutes to check out" due to NO HOT WATER from at least 9:30-11:30 a.m. a maid showed up 3 minutes into the ten and disrupted me while preparing to dress after my postponed shower. Then at my check out the overnight bill escalated to close to ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for one room, one person, one night. The clerk checking me out did not vocalize the outrageous rate and even went so far as to obscure the itemized pricing when offering me a pen for signature. I was then told manager was only one who could resolve and that he was NOT AVAILABLE! After an hour or so of waiting the manager appeared and offered a "discounted" rate to resolve.
